From a Farm Boy’s Dream to a Family Legacy

In 1952, an Idaho farm boy named Bill Byington moved to the West Coast with $100 in his pocket and a desire to start a heat treating services business. Seventy years and three generations after its inception, Byington Steel Treating is Northern California's largest heat treating company.

By the early 1960s, Bill had grown the business enough to purchase our original building. His son, Dean Byington, started working at Byington as a teenager in the late 1950s.

Three Generations of Leadership

Eventually, Dean became president, taking over from his father and expanding the company’s capabilities and capacity until he died in 2006. Dean’s wife, Kathryn, then led the company for the next eight years, improving quality systems, pursuing ISO and AS9100 certification, and expanding our use of technology.

When Kathryn retired in 2014, her son Sean Byington stepped into the role of CEO. Representing the third generation of family leadership, Sean upholds our commitment to customer care and workmanship. When you call our office, you’ll have direct contact with the real people working on your project.
