Sean Byington, CEO

Sean represents the third generation of his family at Byington Steel. He officially joined the company at age 16, starting in maintenance and shifting to receiving/shipping. Later, he helped develop our IT department before moving into top management after completing a bachelor’s degree. Sean enjoys problem-solving—advising a customer, implementing a new system, or working to find the right resource for a team member. In his free time, Sean can often be found playing board games.

Real people. Real expertise. Remarkable service.

  • Brian Toledo

    Assistant Production Manager

With a background in construction, management, and retail, Brian brings a wealth of experience to his role. He’s worked at Byington Steel for almost a decade and loves being involved in customer projects on the office and production sides. Brian especially enjoys working on heat treating parts for space exploration—from propulsion to components that assist astronauts in their daily needs in space. In his free time, Brian enjoys watching and playing sports, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.

  • Colleen Blackburn

    Director of Administration

Colleen has worked at Byington Steel since 1998 and now directs all management, financial, and HR processes. She enjoyed overseeing the renovation of our administrative office and derives satisfaction from updating systems to optimize new technologies and simplify administration. Colleen’s dependability and resourcefulness provide key support for our customer care efforts. When she’s not at work, Colleen enjoys running and long-distance hiking.

  • Shaun Kim

    Quality Director

After ten years at Byington Steel, Shaun says the most satisfying part of his job as Quality Director is finding solutions to complex problems. He enjoys planning ahead, anticipating and mitigating problems before they arise, and watching successful results emerge. He also loves working in an industry where he can learn something new every day. Shaun’s diligent efforts were key to obtaining Byington’s Nadcap accreditation. When not at work, Shaun often plays a frustrating game called golf.

  • Steven Schmehl

    Director of Maintenance

Steven started his career drilling water wells, then served in the U.S. Army for 23 years. After 28 years at Byington Steel, Steven currently serves as our Director of Maintenance. His work varies daily depending on what needs to be done, from installing new equipment to maintaining our massive furnaces. One project Steven particularly enjoyed was building the water tank cooling system for the draw batch furnace.

  • Dylan Porter

    Engineer

Dylan started at Byington Steel while he was pursuing a master’s in engineering at Santa Clara University, and has now been with us for 10 years. As an engineer, Dylan enjoys being part of the industrial heating process for many different projects—from defense to semiconductors, medical supplies, aerospace components, and even knives, armor, and musical instruments. One of the coolest projects he’s worked on was planning and facilitating a nitriding project for a customer’s metal handpan drums to help create the ideal sound. When he’s not at work, Dylan likes to run, paint, write, and play games of almost any sort.
